Console commands can actually help to preserve a great experience as the AI's refusal of the most basic requests just ruins immersion time and time again. When I'm three times your size and I've kicked the crap out of every army you've sent my way, I would really like some 'forced diplomacy' to get the AI to accept vassalage when they should do anyway out of pure logic.

Also, it allowed us to get the AI to accept requests that any person in that position would actually accept.

Console commands were very good in Rome 1 when you just wanted to have a fun campaign and enjoy the game in a less-serious manner.
